For those of you not in the know, Jerry Springer is a talk show host from America, but his television show is unlike anything you’ve ever seen on the small screen. Unlike Oprah or Dr. Phil, who try to give some dignity to their guests and their problems, Jerry Springer does his best to take away what little dignity his guests have not already thrown with both hands down the port-a-potty toilet behind the cheap soundstage. The purpose of the Jerry Springer show is not to empower and enlighten, but to exploit, expose, and make entertainment of the worst of America’s dysfunctional populace, both on the stage and in the audience.
      A description of the show goes beyond the boundaries of good taste and censorship limits imposed upon this publication, but suffice it to say that anything goes on this show, and the more ridiculous, the better. Topics verge from the extreme to the obscene, and the more outrageous the guest, the higher the ratings (to correspond with the accordingly low IQ of the viewers). However, Jerry Springer’s melodramas make for enthralling viewing, and hardly anyone can resist peeking at the show at least once in their lifetimes as he parades an assortment of losers so pathetic that even stray dogs look better in comparison.
      What if someone decided to take the Jerry Springer show and produce a local version of it here in Pakistan? Let’s sit back and imagine what “Jerry Springer Pakistan” might look like, if PTV ever gave it the green light. Next>
