What is
it that makes men and women click or rather ‘crash’
after they have clicked? Do they simply come from different
planets as is the recent theory or they simply defy their
own natural traits and magnify their conflicts. Bina
Shah gives a discerning account of her own.
Can men and women really understand
each other, or do they speak different languages? More
importantly, are they from completely different planets,
as John Grey asserts in his book Men are from Mars, Women
are from Venus?
While men and women probably have
been created biologically different, with a whole set
of emotional, behavioral, and instinctual differences
to go along with our respective X or Y chromosomes, it
is hard to believe that the two genders are so inherently
different that they can never achieve harmony or unity.
The phrase “battle of the sexes”
has been coined by people that have something to gain
by making men and women distrust and dislike each other.
John Grey and the other people in the self-help industry
who have made millions with their books have a lot to
answer for in this regard.
Book after book appears on the bestseller
list, claiming to unlock the secrets of men or women,
teach you a new way of relating, a better solution for
the conflicts that exist between the genders. But these
books simply perpetuate the myth that the opposite sex
is a hostile creature whose behavior is completely alien
and unfathomable to you, simply on the basis that they
are of the opposite sex. Next> |
