We’ve
received exclusive word on some of the top movies in
development for the year 2002. Here are the tentative
titles and plot details for these feature films, which
are guaranteed box-office success in the wake of 9-11
The Hunt for Dead Osama
Sean Connery plays an intrepid submarine commander whose
mission is to find Osama bin Laden, suspected to be
in hiding in an underwater bunker specially built by
the United States at the height of the Afghan-Soviet
war. Chaos erupts when Osama sends two agents posing
as Baywatch lifeguards to crash into the submarine on
jet skis. The part of Osama has not been cast, but Jack
Nicholson and Anthony Hopkins
are reported to be in talks with producers for a salary
of $20 million plus.
The Yvonne Ridley Story
Yvonne Ridley is the intrepid British
journalist who shot to fame when she was arrested and
kept in a Taliban jail for several weeks in 2001. In
this film biopic, Ridley, played by Renee Zellweger,
goes into Afghanistan to report on women’s right.
She is captured by Taliban forces and ends up falling
in love with the bold Taliban commander ( Daniel
Day-Lewis) who is in conflict between his love
for a western women and his loyalty to his country.
Cameo appearance by Hugh Grant as a
foppish British Council official who attempts to get
